Sport would make you happier than money!

According to a study conducted at the University of Oxford and Yale and published in 2018, sportspeople are much less prone to mental suffering than others. Sport would therefore be one of the keys to happiness.

Reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and stroke: sport has countless positive effects on physical health. But not only! Practicing physical activity would also have the power to make us happy. However, this is revealed by the study conducted between 2011 and 2015 in the United States and Great Britain by researchers in neuroscience, psychiatry and cardiovascular health. According to this study, people who exercise regularly suffer 18 fewer days per year than inactive people. And by exercise, it doesn’t necessarily mean running, boxing, or bodybuilding. The simple fact of gardening, doing housework, or walking the dog for 1 hour a day is also taken into consideration.

Why does sport make you happy?

When we practice physical activity, in addition to relaxing the muscles, the body produces certain chemicals that promote well-being. In fact, practicing sports causes the release of endorphins, adrenaline and serotonin. The first are the anti-stress hormones and pain relievers. Secreted by the brain during physical exertion, they induce a lasting feeling of calm and serenity up to several hours after the session. Adrenaline, on the other hand, awakens the body, bringing maximum energy to the muscles and maximum attention to the mind. As for serotonin, nicknamed “the good mood hormone”, it makes us feel good in our sneakers! We understand then why it is so easy to become addicted to this sport.

Sport is good for morale

If sport has the power to make you happier than money, it’s also because it boosts morale. By taking care of your body, keeping your figure and building muscle, you feel better about yourself and more confident every day. Physical activity also allows you to take on challenges, reach goals and push your limits. A good way to feel satisfied, happy and fulfilled. Finally, by practicing sport regularly, they are privileged moments that we allow ourselves to escape, moments for ourselves, away from the worries of everyday life. According to the study in question, the well-being provided by 3-5 weekly sports sessions would be equivalent to the happiness experienced by earning an extra $ 25,000 a year without playing sports. So, if money doesn’t bring happiness, sport clearly does!
