In Clermont-Ferrand, the CrossFit cream met for two days

CrossFit is the contraction of cross fitness, which can be translated as cross training. The discipline was imagined by a former American gymnast: she gradually conquered France, and today there are a dozen gyms in the metropolis of Clermont. On 12 and 13 November an event, the Kanda showdown, took place at the Maison de sports de Clermont-Ferrand, with 300 athletes from all over France.

During 2 days of Cross Fit events, November 12 and 13, at the Maison des sports in Clermont-Ferrand, we were able to witness a mix of gymnastics, weightlifting, athletic strength and endurance. These are the real 12 labors of Hercules, or more exactly the 6 workouts of the day: 6 series of exercises to do, to reward the most complete athlete.

Cassandre, 23, is one of the 100 best French women. She measures herself in her first workout of the day: 15 minutes, under the supervision of a judge, to overcome a series of jumps, push-ups, dumbbells and balances. Cassandra explains: Right now, I’m a little tired. Stress decreased after this first test. I’m about to attack the sequel. I didn’t hurt anywhere. When you are well trained, it goes by itself “.

A former top skier, she discovered cross fit during rehabilitation after a knee injury. You have reached the highest level in two years, but CrossFit, a healthy sport, is aiming for the greatest number. Anis Hermi, co-organizer of the Kanda showdown, points out: “ There is really no profile. We start from 6 years up to 65 years. There are other rooms that go up to 80 years old. We will adapt the movement, the loads, the technique to the level of each one. Either we go to the structure or we will increase the difficulty with respect to each “.

The Kanda Showdown event also includes disabled athletes, or “adaptive” in cross fit parlance. The adapted accessories allow Rémi to compete, despite a syndrome that makes him lose the strength of his hands. Remi clarifies: These accessories will allow me to hold on to a weightlifting bar or gym bar by myself. I will be able to do it myself. Autonomy is important for the psychological aspect. It must be fun “.

Faced with the same difficulties as the others, Rémi pushed his limits for two days. The Kanda showdown, the first major cross fit event in Auvergne, confirms the rise of the discipline, which has left small spaces to exhibit at the Maison des sports.
