business news Activision-Blizzard loses tens of millions of players!

Activision-Blizzard has released its quarterly report for the months of January through March. The publisher deplores a serious loss of players over the same period last year.

We discover that the American publisher Activision-Blizzard has lost over sixty million players on average between March 2021 and March 2022.

More than 60 million players lost in one year

In his latest quarterly reportActivision-Blizzard announces that it is dropped to 372 million players on average in the quarter January-March 2022. In the same quarter of 2021, the publisher has an average of 435 million monthly players. A loss of 63 million monthly players over the year, a significant loss. In fact, this number is calculated based on the number of unique players who have logged into one of the publisher’s games for three months, divided by three.

Players on the run from Call of Duty?

This loss of players is mainly attributed by the publisher to a minor success for the Call of Duty franchise. According to the report, Call of Duty: Vanguard sold far less than Black Ops Cold War. On the other hand, on the side of free gamesWarzone players would have been “less involved” this year, and therefore visibly less tied to the game. On the other hand, the Call of Duty: Mobile game was recorded almost equal figures this quarter compared to the first quarter of 2021.

Blizzard returns thanks to World of Warcraft?

On Blizzard’s part, the lack of major releases has led to a sharp decline in the company’s financial results from one year to the next. The results are expected to increase this year, thanks to the release of the Dragonflight expansions on World of Warcraft and Wrath of the Lich King on WoW Classic. On the other hand, we now know that Diablo Immortal will be released on PC in beta at the same time as it will be released on mobile platforms. Without forgetting of course the first steps of Overwatch 2 that we can hope to see soon and possible new features of Diablo IV. Generally, Blizzard expects better numbers, including more players, for 2022.

Activision-Blizzard has an average of just over 60 million fewer players each month.
