One of the most important expense items for families is undoubtedly that of the car. Owning a car costs far more than its purchase price. Taxes, maintenance costs and fuel represent a cost that is certainly not negligible each year. Especially in these times of severe crisis and soaring prices of many things related to the automobile, the race for savings is common to many families. The increase in the price of gasoline and diesel is something that affects all Italians. But there are vehicles that offer significant advantages from this point of view, both on fuel and on taxes. But we need to understand what these vehicles are and what kind of savings they offer.

The automotive industry is moving more and more towards sustainable mobility. And governments around the world too. For pollution-related issues, two- and four-wheel mobility is taking the path of electrification. From traditionally fueled combustion engine vehicles, we are moving towards electric or at least dual-fuel vehicles.

And if for the authorities an electric car means a low-polluting and virtuous car from an environmental point of view, for families it is more. For families, an electric car can mean real savings on supplies and taxes.

The advantages of electric cars over traditional cars are obvious

When it comes to significant savings on car tax and vehicle fuel consumption, the reference is to electric cars. Already on the car tax, for example, savings are not uncommon. This is a property tax on vehicles, which applies to all car owners. And it is a regional tax, on which the Regions have a large autonomy of decision. On electric cars, however, most of these regions work the same way. Car tax on electric vehicles is generally not paid for the first 5 years after registration. And for the following years you only pay 25% of what is due for a petrol or diesel car of the same power.

Another factor to consider

The car tax is a tax that is paid once a year. For fuel, on the other hand, shopping is weekly or even daily. Today, refueling is expensive due to continuous and huge increases. To tell the truth, the cost of electricity is also increasing, but the comparison as an expense between gasoline and electricity does not hold water and is in favor of electricity.

Suffice to say that even one of the most common hybrid cars (petrol/electric) offers a 33% saving in terms of fuel consumption. For fully electric cars, the savings are well over 50%.
