“Grey’s Anatomy” writer on administrative leave during a human resources survey


Elisabeth Finch, one of Grey’s AnatomyShonda Rhimes’s most eloquent writer, she was put on administrative leave due to concern that elements of her personal journey – some of which she wrote in the show produced by Shonda Rhimes – would be fabricated.

Source confirms a The Hollywood reporter that Disney’s human resources and legal departments are conducting an internal investigation to determine whether the elements, including her diagnosis of cancer and abortion during chemotherapy, among other arguments, were inaccurate. Shondaland representatives did not immediately respond to calls and emails from THR. The anklet previously reported that an investigation was initiated by Disney.

Finch was a writer Grey’s for years and has written multiple episodes of the series for former showrunner Rhimes and current showrunner Krista Vernoff. She has also detailed her personal struggles in essays for publications including She, Shondaland.com and THR while he also did multiple press rounds for episodes over the years that would be based on his own experiences.

Multiple sources say it THR that doubt about the validity of Finch’s personal data arose after the writer cited a family emergency and left the writers’ room to address a family matter. When colleagues phoned Finch’s wife, Jennifer Beyer, the similarities to the story Finch told his colleagues and Beyer’s story matched. Beyer has raised concerns with Disney and Shondaland executives, prompting Finch to be put on administrative leave. Finch and Beyer are said to be going through a “bitter divorce,” as one source described it.

“SM. Finch will not disclose her private health matters. Likewise, she will not talk about her pending divorce from estranged wife, Jennifer Beyer, nor will she comment on any statements Ms. Beyer may have made to third parties about Ms. Finch.” Finch’s attorney, Andrew Brettler, of Lavely & Singer, said in a statement to THR.

Several industry peers who have been friendly with Finch for years tell the tale THR who are stunned by the rumors and no longer know what to believe and cite the lack of a “smoking gun” to illustrate disbelief. “You believe this poor woman was going through this horrible thing and you want to support her,” said one of Finch’s longtime associates.
