Despite the valid advice to save on electricity, the bill will always arrive higher than the previous ones. This is because the price of the raw material has increased. Unfortunately, the gas we use in the kitchen has also increased.

If before we bought a cylinder around 25 euros, now we will find it at more than 30 euros. In fact, even LPG, the gas contained in cylinders, increased by 41.1%. Considering a typical day, for lunch and dinner, we consume a certain amount of gas.

In general, the gas consumption depends on the size of the stove. The large should consume 3 kW, the medium 1.65 kW, while the small 1 kW. For example, it is customary to cook pasta. Between boiling water, cooking pasta, seasoning to prepare, how much gas do we consume?

Considering all this, we should lose about 15/20 minutes. This means that if we used the large stove for the pot and the small one for the seasoning, we would consume 0.18 m³/h plus 0.6 m³/h. In reality, we will have a lower consumption because these figures indicate the hourly consumption, and not the actual consumption of the single plate of pasta.

Doing it for a day does not imply excessive consumption, but doing it every day, for several hours and several times a day, would mean greater difficulty in saving. Especially if we used all 4 burners at the same time and for over an hour. We would consume about 4.2 m³ of gas.

Saving tips

So, here is how much cooking is consumed, but these tips will be useful for you, to try to consume less gas and save money for the purchase of the cylinder. First of all, to consume less gas, you have to speed up the cooking times. One way to speed up the boiling of water, for example, is to add the lid.

Bring the water to a boil with the lid on the pan, salt and lower the heat. A lower power, in fact, will be equivalent to consuming less gas but, in the meantime, the water will boil in the same way. Another way to speed up time is to pour hot or lukewarm water directly into the pan. We can use it from the tap, hot, because with the high temperatures germs and bacteria will be eliminated. When the pasta is cooked, do not throw it away because it is worth gold for several functions.

As for pasta, to save gas and time, buy the one with the shortest cooking time.

For example, pappardelle, tagliatelle, linguine, tagliolini require 5 or 6 minutes of cooking, while capellini require 3 or 4 minutes. On the other hand, those that require long cooking times, from 11 to 12 minutes, are tortiglioni, rigatoni, pennette, cavatelli, paccheri, etc. You could also buy fresh pasta, which cooks in 2 or 3 minutes. Instead, add the sauce at room temperature, as it will heat up on contact with the boiling pasta.
