Job fair (JOB FAIR 2022): in Agadez, a second edition that has kept all its promises

The air capital hosted, on 15 and 16 March 2022, the second edition of the Job Fair (JOB FAIR 2022), an event organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM Niger) in collaboration with the Incubator Center for Small and Medium Enterprises in Niger (CIPMEN) and thanks to the financial support of the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (UNPBF) and the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development (AICS) as well as the European Union. On the menu, high-level workshops and conferences, exhibitions-sales, business meetings that have allowed young people from Agadez and from all over the country to forge partnerships and enrich their knowledge and experiences on the entrepreneurial ecosystem and on the labor market in Niger.

After Tahoua, the capital of Ader which for the first edition was already sold out in 2019 with more than 6,000 participants, is Agadez, the capital of Air, which hosted the second edition on 15 and 16 March 2022 in the MJC Laya of the Job Fair (JOB FAIR 2022). As for the previous edition, the event was a perfect success both in the organization and in the considerable presence of the participants, mostly young entrepreneurs, project leaders and job seekers from all regions of Niger who, for two days, they actively engaged in activities and exchanges around entrepreneurship and employability in Niger.

It was with a colorful ceremony that the Fair was launched in the presence of the Minister of Employment, Labor and Social Protection, Dr Ibrahim Boukary, the Minister of Industry and Youth Entrepreneurship, Mrs Salamatou Gourouza Magaji, as well as of civilian and military authorities from the Agadez region, representatives of partners, business leaders and numerous distinguished guests.

Several speeches marked this official opening ceremony, in particular that of the Minister of Labor who, on this occasion, announced the institutionalization of the Job Fair, now a flagship event for the promotion of employment and entrepreneurship in Niger. A decision that is certainly explained by the support and enthusiasm it arouses among young Nigerians and given the prospects it offers for the development of the country.

During the two days, various activities were carried out, including conferences and high-level panels which focused, among other things, on various topics related to the promotion of employment and the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Niger. “How to successfully position your product or project in just 2 minutes?”, “What are the effective methods to easily reach your target?” they were, for example, exposed to the public, who participated massively in the presentations of eminent experts and business leaders, as well as in the quite enriching exchanges and discussions that followed.

The activities also consisted of networking sessions, business meetings, exchanges of experiences and this second edition of the Job Fair was also the occasion for another certificate award ceremony for the benefit of the beneficiaries of the Relaunch Entrepreneurship project: Agadez for Innovation and Business Creation (React).

The job fair aims to consolidate the links between the Nigerian authorities, the private sector, civil society organizations, youth and women’s associations, artisans, migrants and the diaspora, in order to promote the development of Niger and create an information network between the actors and also aims to contribute to the revitalization of the entrepreneurial environment among young people.

To support the government of Niger in responding to the challenges of socio-economic conditions that encourage young people to migrate irregularly, IOM in Niger has implemented the IDEE (Initiatives for the Development of Enterprise) project funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).

So IOM entrusted CIPMEN with the task of organizing the second edition of the job fair lasting days in the city of Agadez, with the collaboration of the University of Agadez, and of all the regional and national state structures interested in the event.

Like the first edition, this second Job Fair also kept all its promises and ended with a note of satisfaction, especially for the women and young people of Agadez and beyond who had an unprecedented opportunity to build partnerships. , to create relationships with the actors of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and above all to discover the many opportunities offered by the various support structures for innovative entrepreneurship in the various sectors.
